Every child experiences and interacts with the world in their own unique way. Psychological assessments help families understand a child’s thinking, learning, and behaviour so they can support them at home, at school, and beyond.
We offer assessments for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and cognitive functioning (IQ).
These explore a child’s strengths, challenges, and daily functioning. Cognitive assessments examine overall intellectual ability as well as specific areas such as memory, attention, reasoning, and problem-solving, and are often included as part of a thorough ADHD evaluation.
All comprehensive assessments include a detailed written report and a feedback session, helping parents understand the results and how best to support their child’s development, learning, and wellbeing.
At Jessica Tan Psychology, we understand that the assessment process can feel daunting for children and their families.
To make the experience as comfortable and convenient as possible, we offer in-school assessments and telehealth consultations for parents.
In-clinic assessments are also available upon request.
We have current availability for assessments in Term 4 2025.
A 15-minute complimentary call is offered for new families to discuss the reasons for seeking an assessment. Jessica will answer your questions, outline the process, and help determine if an assessment is the right next step.
We’re currently welcoming new families, with only a short wait for appointments.
The assessment begins with an in-depth interview with parents and, when appropriate, the child.
This session captures a detailed developmental and behavioural history and forms the basis of a personalised assessment plan. A cost estimate is provided following this session.
Location: Online or in clinic
Duration: 1-1.5 hours
Cost: $250 (plus GST)*
*This appointment is offered at a reduced rate of $250 which is below the Australian Psychological Society’s recommended rate of $311 for a standard 45-minute consultation. Charging separately for this initial session helps keep the overall assessment process transparent and affordable, while ensuring we can provide the time and attention each family deserves.
Psychometrically validated questionnaires are provided to parents, children (when appropriate), and key people in your child’s support network.
These tools offer additional insight into your child’s functioning across home, school, and social environments. Conversations with teachers or other professionals may also be conducted.
Duration: Questionnaires take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete and are completed online at your convenience.
The child completes in-person assessment tasks, typically taking 1–3 hours. Depending on their needs, tasks may be split across two sessions. Parent attendance is optional, particularly for in-school assessments.
Location: In school or clinic
A detailed written report is prepared and discussed during a feedback session. Jessica reviews your child’s strengths and challenges, explains the assessment results, and provides practical, tailored recommendations for support at home, school, and in daily life.
Duration: 50 minutes
Location: Online
Fee: Included in cost of assessment.
Jessica is a warm, genuine, and compassionate registered psychologist who is dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and their families. She helps young people make sense of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours — and helps parents better understand and connect with their child.
Jessica has experience providing assessment and therapy services in both school and private hospital settings, giving her a broad understanding of how emotional, social, and learning needs show up across home and school environments.
As a neurodiverse person herself, Jessica brings lived experience and empathy to the assessment process. She understands first-hand the relief, clarity, and confidence that a thoughtful assessment can bring. Her approach is neuroaffirming, respectful, and tailored to each child’s individuality and strengths.
As a parent, Jessica appreciates that every family has its own story, challenges, and hopes. She believes that psychological assessments are not just about diagnoses and difficulties but about helping parents truly see and understand their child — opening up new ways to support and connect with them.
Jessica is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society. She is currently a Clinical Psychology Registrar, working toward endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.
When she’s not working with families, Jessica continues her role as a psychologist in a school setting — or finds any excuse to spend time outdoors in the sunshine.

Measures used in each assessment will differ and may include:
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V)
The WISC-V explores how a child thinks, reasons, and solves problems. It looks at areas such as verbal understanding, visual–spatial skills, working memory, and processing speed. The results help build a picture of a child’s learning style, strengths, and areas that may need support.
Conners – Fourth Edition (Conners-4)
The Conners-4 gathers insights from parents, teachers, and young people to understand attention, behaviour, and emotional regulation. It helps identify signs of ADHD and related challenges, supporting a well-rounded understanding of a child’s daily functioning.
Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Function – Second Edition (BRIEF-2)
The BRIEF-2 looks at how a child manages everyday tasks that involve planning, organisation, emotional control, and flexible thinking. It provides a window into executive functioning skills that affect learning and behaviour at home and school.
Adaptive Behavior Assessment System – Third Edition (ABAS-3)
The ABAS-3 measures a child’s everyday practical, social, and communication skills — the things they do to manage daily life at home, school, and in the community. It helps understand how a child functions day to day and supports assessment of adaptive skills in areas such as self-care, social understanding, and independence.
Young DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Young People)
The Young DIVA-5 is a structured interview used with adolescents to explore attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity symptoms. It helps ensure an accurate and age-appropriate understanding of ADHD traits and their impact on daily life.
